The brand new Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) Museum at Worthy Down near Winchester, is holding a First World War living history event from 12 to 14 August 2021.

Interaction with horses, and soldiers in WW1 uniform, plus a display of original WW1 horse drawn wagons, harness, wheelwright equipment, WW1 weapons and tents, will make the event a fun and educational summer holiday day out, for all the family.

Visitors will be able to see a selection of magnificent First World War horse drawn vehicles, including GS (general service) Wagons, Mark I and Mark II Horse Ambulances, a limbered wagon, a water cart and an officer’s mess cart.

Interaction with a picket line of horses and soldiers dressed in First World War uniforms will be the highlight of the three-day event. There will also be horse harness, wheelwright equipment, First World War weapons and bell tents on display.

Fun activities for children, including medal making, will also be available throughout the event, which runs from 9:30 to 16:00 on all three days.

If visitors are feeling peckish and fancy snack ‘cooked in the field’; Army Catering Corps veterans and Friends of the Museum, will be selling delicious bacon and sausage buns, cooked on an authentic Soyer Stove. The stove was designed by the famous chef Alexis Soyer during the Crimean War and went on to feed the British Army into the 1980s.

Entry to the event and museum is free. The museum offers free parking, baby changing facilities, toilet facilities, is wheelchair friendly, has a café selling Starbucks coffee (Mon – Fri: 7:30 – 14:30) and secure lockers.
